Mirror (UK) misidentifies man as terrorist

ON 1st May whilst reporting the Bluewater terror plot we printed the above picture of Abdul Hadi Awang and said that he was the Al Qaeda number 3 who had been captured last year and was being held in Guantanamo Bay. This is incorrect and the photograph was published in error. Our article intended to refer to a completely different person, Abdul Hadi al Iraqi. Abdul Hadi Awang is President of PAS, a leading democratic political party in Malaysia, and he has no connection with Abdul Hadi al Iraqi. Mr Awang is not and has never been a member of AI Qaeda and is opposed to their acts of terrorism. Mr Awang has never been so much as questioned or arrested in connection with terrorism, or held in Guantanamo Bay. We apologise to Mr Awang for any distress or embarrassment caused. Link
