The National Post reported in the May 24 edition on a lawsuit
commenced by Andre Gravelle, one of two persons originally charged in
the 1998 murder of Hamilton criminal defence lawyer Lynn Gilbank and
her husband Fred Gilbank. The case is against the Government of Ontario
and certain individuals for damages resulting he says he has suffered
from false arrest, false imprisonment, negligent investigation and
negligent prosecution.
The article reported on the claims made by
Mr. Gravelle in his lawsuit, in which Mr. Gravelle suggested that Mark
Gilbank, son of the deceased, should have been investigated for the
murder instead of him. However, Mr. Gravelle in his claim did not
allege that Mark Gilbank committed any crime.
The National Post
wants to make it clear that Mr. Gilbank is not a defendant in the
lawsuit and none of the claims relating to him made by Mr. Gravelle
have been proven in court. Mr. Gilbank has stated that the references
to him in the lawsuit are unfounded and entirely false. Link
