Profuse apologies for the full-page map we published last week as part
of our British surnames supplement, which appeared to place Dundee
somewhere near Potters Bar and put Llandudno in five separate
locations. The fault did not lie in the cartography, but in the key
alongside the map, which listed the top 50 surnames in Britain by
postcode area, whereas the map showed them by town. So, for instance,
there are more Clarks in Broxbourne than any other town, but the postal
area with the greatest number of Clarks is Dundee. Likewise, Williams,
Hughes, Jones, Roberts and Edwards prevail in the Llandudno postal
area, and in five separate towns within that area. See the correct
