The Morien Jones apologies, cont. again

The apologies keep rolling in for Morien Jones. This story goes back to last summer. Some newspapers continue to get the story wrong, while others are just getting around to correcting their reports from last year. Below are the latest installments. Read the previous ones by starting here.

FURTHER to our article on May 26 2006 about Lynett Burgess’s acquittal for indecent exposure, we have been asked to make clear her neighbour Morien Jones did not film Ms Burgess in her garden.
The video shown in court was shot by Mr Jones’s builder as she walked naked in front of Mr Jones’s house.
We apologise to Mr Jones for any embarrassment caused. Link

On May 25 2006 we reported that Lynett Burgess has been cleared of indecent exposure for sunbathing nude in her garden. We stated that her neighbour, Mr Jones, had taken a video of her in her garden which was given to the police. We have been asked to make clear that Mr Jones's builder in fact took the pictures when Ms Burgess was on Mr Jones's drive.

In an article published on 18th April ('Naked' nurse's living hell) we incorrectly reported that a builder had filmed Lyneth Burgess sunbathing naked in her own garden and that her neighbours, Morien and Nia Jones, reported her to police for this. 

In fact the builder's film, taken on police advice, showed Ms Burgess walking naked on the driveway at the front of the Jones' property, not on her own property. 

We apologise for any misleading impression given of Mr Jones and his family.

Our agency-based report on the unsuccessful prosecution of Lynette Burgess for indecent exposure (25 May) suggested that she had been filmed sunbathing naked in her garden by a neighbour, Morien Jones. In fact the film, taken on police advice by Mr Jones's builder in the context of possible court proceedings, showed Ms Burgess walking naked on the driveway at the front of Mr Jones's property.

Plagiarism knows no age

One of the poems that KidsPost published as part of its poetry contest on Tuesday was not written by the child who submitted it. The poem that appeared as "Who Am I?" was actually written by J. Patrick Lewis and published in his book "Monumental Verses." The child who sent the poem to KidsPost said she didn't realize that entries to the contest had to be original. But copying something that someone else wrote without giving them credit is plagiarism, and it's wrong. Link

Oops! Check servings for crawfish boil
Mary Nola and Glenn Sotile know their crawfish eating friends. When they read Dr. Charlie Daniel's Boiled Crawfish recipe in the "Alphabet Soup" column April 19, they said something was wrong.
The recipe, which called for a 40- to 45-pound sack of crawfish, was listed as serving a crowd of 50 to 60. Sotile said "maybe the crowd is small children or New York City residents."
Actually, columnist Steph-anie Riegel explained, the recipe should have said "Serves 12 to 15." For the crowd of 50 to 60, the recipe would need to be tripled if part of the group includes children, or quadrupled if the crowd is made up of the "60 hungry south Louisianians" Sotile sees at the crawfish boils he attends.

A pseudo apology from The Sun

A correction from Victoria Newton, who writes the Bizarre column for the paper:

EARLIER this week I reported that Noel Gallagher was spotted drinking mineral water at an Arsenal v Man City match. A reader rang to say Noel was being sensible, supping water all night. I would like to make it clear that Noel was, in fact, right on it with pals Mike Pickering, Phil Smith and Manc character Scully.
I apologise for any damage to his reputation as Bizarre Caner Of The Year. Link

Know thyself

In Wednesday's edition, page A6, the article "Daily News wins multiple awards" should have said the newspaper won third place in the category of Best Enterprise Reporting.

Phantom accusation*

An article in the Business section of the April 22 Sunday Star-Ledger incorrectly reported that an attorney, David Browde, had accused Michael Margolies of "essentially looting" a company called Headliners Entertainment Group, Inc. In fact, Browde made no such accusation against Margolies. The Star-Ledger regrets the error.

Correction April 26, 2007: The word "phantom" was originally misspelled as "pantom" in this headline. We regret the error, and our inability to spell.

Halberstam would not be pleased

The cover of the book by David Halberstam does not show the author, but the former US defence secretary Robert McNamara (obituary, page 31, April 25). Link

All, ahem, athletes look alike

The identity of an LSU football player was incorrect in a photo caption on the back page of Tuesday's Sports section. The player shown was not LaRon Landry but teammate Dwayne Bowe. Link

Correction, with pick up part two

From Quick Hits, a sports column in the paper:

Department of corrections: The first name of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model mentioned in this column Tuesday is Marisa, not Marissa. Quick Hits regrets the error but not the opportunity to run another photo of her.

Acting is stressful work

In a report headed Angry families of terror victims seek payouts (page 6, April 20) we said that Glenn Shadbolt, who survived the Sharm el-Sheikh bombings in Egypt in 2005, suffers from "post-dramatic stress disorder". We meant to say "post-traumatic stress disorder". Link
