Take that, Mr. Principal

ON Saturday, March 24, under the headline "Boy, 9, takes bag of cocaine to school", we incorrectly reported that the Principal of the school concerned, Mr Ambrose McGinnity, had confirmed "the cocaine find".
In fact Mr McGinnity confirmed only that a substance had been found and he did not identify what that substance was.
However, a Garda source did confirm that the substance found was cocaine. We are happy to correct the position.

Resurrection and relocation

Joss Stone: An article in Tuesday's Calendar section on British singer Joss Stone referred to musician and DJ Johnny Otis as "the late bandleader." Otis is 85 and living in Northern California. The article also described songwriter-producer Lamont Dozier as a "Philly soul icon." Dozier was a key member of the Motown Records hit-making team in Detroit. Link

In a never-ending commitment to accuracy, let the record show WWE Diva Ashley Massaro is on the cover and in the April issue of Playboy. She is not the Playmate of the Month. That honor goes to Giuliana Marino, German Playboy's 2006 Playmate of the Year, who is Miss April. Quick Hits regrets the error. Almost as much as regretting not having a swimsuit photo of her to run.

Iran, Iraq...whatever

British captives: An article in Saturday's Section A about 15 British sailors and marines seized by Iranian forces identified Khorramshahr as an Iraqi city. It is in Iran. Link

Lost in translation

A front-page Inside summary on Sunday about a new translation of the Koran misstated a controversial interpretation of a verse about a husband’s dealing with a rebellious wife. It says the husband should go away from the woman if her behavior does not improve; it does not say the woman should be “sent away.” Link

All aristocracts look alike

The photo accompanying yesterday's article on class by Michael Onslow, the 7th Earl of Onslow, was of Lord Onslow of Woking, the former Conservative MP for Woking, and not the author. We apologise for the mistake and any distress it may have caused.

Fuzzy numbers etc.

ALTHOUGH Kingston, Jamaica, has the third-highest murder rate in the world, it has not had anything like 15,000 murders per year. There were 1,445 murders in the whole of Jamaica in 2004 (Page 9, March 24).

Wouldn't want to live there

A report of court proceedings in the trial of the suspected July 21 tube bombers (Failure of devices foiled tube attacks, court told, page 3, January 6,) misstated the address of the flat in which the suspects allegedly gathered on the night of July 20, 2006. We are happy to make clear that the residents of the address originally reported, Flat 14, Delgarno Gardens, North Kensington, have no involvement in the case whatsoever and offer our apologies.

All, ahem, politicians look alike

A picture with an entry in the News Summary on March 6 about the refusal by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan to apologize for his country’s use of some 200,000 women as sexual slaves during World War II was published in error. It showed Koichi Haraguchi, Japan’s envoy in charge of normalizing ties with North Korea — not Mr. Abe. Link

The difference between morbidity and death

We stated in error that the most common cause of death for women under the age of 44 was domestic violence, and that this was greater than both cancer and road accidents (Beating the wife-beaters, page 16, G2, March 16). Figures reported by the Home Office show it is the largest cause of morbidity, not death. Morbidity: the relative incidence of a particular disease (Collins).
