A story that appeared last week on Congressman Wally Herger's town-hall teleconference contained an error. The story reported that several thousand people left questions by voicemail for Herger to answer. In fact, about 200 people, over two nights, left such questions. Link
A new study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that the risk of cardiac arrest for women who have a caesarean section is 1.9 per thousand, not 1.9 per cent, versus 0.4 per thousand, not 0.4 per cent, for women who delivered their babies vaginally. Incorrect information appeared in a story on page A1 Tuesday.
The Feb. 15 column "Libby's Cynical Defense"
mistakenly stated that NBC's Tim Russert testified that Libby had given
him information about Valerie Plame. In fact, he testified that he and
Libby had not discussed Plame at all. The column has been corrected. Link
Magistrate David Hellpern
IN
an article headed ''30 beers and still driving'', published in The
Daily Telegraph on Wednesday, Magistrate David Hellpern was quoted as
saying to the defendant Rowan Davidson: ''You were behaving like a jerk
and you were smashed for it.''
In fact,
those words were contained in a submission to the court and the
magistrate was simply reading them. The error is regretted.
Feb. 15----A
column on Page 20 of the Feb. 8 Foothills Star included a recipe for
dog food containing onion. According to Michael Lent, president of the
Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, "onions are considered to be
potentially toxic" to dogs and should not be fed to them in any amount.
The recipe also said garlic is an option. Lent said garlic is also
potentially toxic to dogs. Link
A Feb. 13 Health article incorrectly said that Henry Fielding's novel "Tom Jones" was published in 1917. It was 1749. Link
A Feb. 12 Metro article
incorrectly reported that the parents of a teenager killed Saturday
while fleeing D.C. police are deceased. Both parents of Kevin Thomas,
17, are alive. Link
This column has been guilty of many transgressions in the past. But it seems that ISpy really has just gone too bloody far this time.
In
yesterday's column, reference was made to Galway being "Ireland's most
annoyingly smug town". And, perhaps predictably, this elicited a
furious response from the town of hippies, crusties and weirdos.
Typical was the following furious tract: "As a regular reader of your ISpy
column and a born and bred Galwegian, I can not let pass your
derogatory comment about Galway, describing it as 'Ireland's most
annoyingly smug city'.
"Now its ok for you to talk and pass judgement up there inIrish IndependentTowers, but you don't have to live here like I do. You don't have to open theGalway Advertiser and see 37 pictures of our bearded, sandal-wearing green mayor (every bloody week).
"You
don't have to watch Mickie D drive around in his 'man of the people'
20-year-old Ford Fiesta. Or listen to his bloody poetry. THAT BLOODY
POETRY! Or look at signs on telephone poles directing to 'Shannon
Warport'.
"Or listen to non-stop whingeing
from Galway's top female artist Mary Coughlan. Oh sorry, you do have to
listen to that. Or put up with the protests over the Salthill Air show
(because of American war machines, don't you know). Or face 'expel the
Israeli Ambassador' placards on the hard shoulder driving to work.
"Boy,
was I tempted to accidentally drive real close to that crowd as I
passed by. I swear to god, it's enough to make you switch off the
brain, give up the good fight and just join in with the smugness."
Honestly, we knew things were bad down there, but we had no idea things were this bad.
Time to organise an airlift of the few remaining rational people from Hippy Central?
...and
an apology to Antwerp And, in keeping with the contrite tone of today's
column, we must apologise to another city, albeit one far more
interesting than Galway - yup, a big 'sorry' to the endlessly
fascinating fleshpot that is, erm, Antwerp.
Due
to a combination of stress, incompetence, being a flibbertigibbet and
generally not checking anything, ISpy erroneously claimed that Antwerp
was in Holland.
As we all know, it's in Sweden. Sorry for the error...

yesterday mistakenly said the Democratic Party proposed candidates for
chief executive should require nomination by 50 lawmakers. The correct
figure is five. We apologise for the error.
