AN article
that appeared in last Saturday's Townsville Bulletin about the future
of the Townsville Pony Club and Horse Sport NQ Inc on Stuart Drive
contained some factual errors.
It said
the Townsville Pony Club had been delisted by Queensland Pony Clubs
Association two years ago for inactivity. This was incorrect.
The club remained affiliated with the state body until December 2005 and is in the process of renewing its 2006 membership.
The
article also claimed a stall complex on the grounds was built by money
paid in compensation for land resumption and fill taken from the
grounds by developer Fairfield Waters. This was incorrect.
The
complex was built by Horse Sport NQ Inc with money borrowed by it and
guaranteed by Horse Sport NQ committee members. It was built for use by
all horse sport participants, including race horse trainers.
The
article also said Tony Hogan had not been president of the pony club
for a few years. This is incorrect. Mr Hogan remains president of the
club. Alan Parry, who was named in the article as chairman, is
president of Horse Sport NQ Inc, a separate entity to the pony club
itself.
The article also said the pony
club received $64,000 in compensation from Fairfield Waters, this was
incorrect. The $64,000 was paid by Fairfield Waters to the Queensland
Government for the purchase of State land. The pony club did not
receive any compensation from the Government.
The
article also said the pony club received a $20,000 donation from
Fairfield Waters. This was incorrect. The $20,000 was paid by Fairfield
Waters to the pony club as part of a negotiated settlement resulting
from the developer's involvement in the loss of land and improvements
to some of the pony club site. The Bulletin apologises for the errors
and any distress it may have caused to Mr Hogan and the pony club.
