In our article "Can you be green, blue and Goldsmith" (February 18,
Supplement) we reported wrongly that there was a court battle between
the Ecologist and Tate & Lyle about criticisms of the artificial
sweetener aspartame. In fact Tate & Lyle does not manufacture
aspartame and has no connection with its manufacture. Further there is
no "court battle", as there are no legal proceedings. Tate & Lyle
have complained to the Ecologist about an article criticising their
product sucralose.
The Ecologist has offered to print a reply from Tate & Lyle
responding to alleged inaccuracies in the article. We apologise to Tate
& Lyle.
