It's true: Dick Clark has had work done

Newsday, which has a policy against altering the content of a photo in a way that would mislead readers, unknowingly published on the cover of Sunday's TV Picks a computer-altered photograph supplied by ABC. An image of Dick Clark was electronically edited into a photo of co-stars Ryan Seacrest and Hilary Duff to publicize the network's New Year's Eve broadcast. Related story, A11. Link

An Associated Press photograph that ran on Page B5 of Sunday's Bee was not of convicted murderer Mitchell Sims. Link

Which means some unsuspecting citizen was labeled a convicted murderer.

An article yesterday about the indictment of David F. Downey in connection with the death of a 17-year-old incorrectly reported the amount of cocaine in an "eight ball." The term refers to 3.5 grams of cocaine. Link

Paper apologizes for underestimating cricketer

From the sports page of the Daily Telegraph in Australia (Link):

A BACK-PAGE headline in yesterday's Daily Telegraph ("Can't Bat, Can Bowl") may have inferred that Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds' success with the ball was a one-off in an otherwise fading Test career.
After watching Symonds blast South Africa yesterday with the bat -- including a record six sixes in an innings at the MCG -- The Daily Telegraph concedes it was wrong and apologises unreservedly for any hurt and embarrassment caused.
With each of the Queensland all-rounder's big hits, the paper went a deeper shade of red.
And by the time Symonds had helped rip through the South Africans in the second innings, the Telegraph would have eaten its hat if it had one.
It is now accepted Symonds is indeed a quality Test cricketer after scoring 72 and taking 2-6, and he will be warmly welcomed by Sydneysiders when he plays at the SCG.

No trophy for you

Because of a reporting error, a story about Boston College defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka in Monday's Sports section incorrectly reported that he won the Lombardi Trophy given to college football's best lineman. A.J. Hawk of Ohio State won the award. Link

UPDATE: This correction is incorrect. The Outland Trophy is awarded to college football's best lineman.

The ghost of Adam Sandler, perhaps?

A picture caption in The Arts yesterday with an article about a rap video made by two "Saturday Night Live" performers misstated the given name of one of them. He is Andy Samberg, not Adam. Link
