A front-page article on June 21 about evangelical Christians in New York City referred imprecisely to Tony Carnes, a sociologist and a writer for the magazine Christianity Today. (The error also appeared in articles on Dec. 13, 2004, and Nov. 5 and 14, 2004.) He is the director of a social sciences seminar at Columbia University; he is not on the faculty.

Guardian apology

In Wimbledon Diary, page 35, June 23, we incorrectly reported that Brian Lara had been thrown out of the press box on Court two at Wimbledon. Mr Lara and his longstanding partner were not thrown out and left before the end of the match when their transport arrived. We apologise for any embarrassment and upset caused to Mr Lara and his partner.

Perhaps all the grunting got to Brian Lara. The former West Indies cricket captain found front-row seats in the press box on Court Two during Serena Williams' match against Angela Haynes for himself and his latest squeeze. Lara's canoodling, however, was too much for the gentlemen of the tennis press and both were soon ejected from the prime position.

Phantom introduction

In Datebook's Entertainment Report on June 20, the Associated Press erroneously reported that Alan Cumming had joked that Janet Jackson "was never one for controversy" at an awards ceremony honoring the singer. The comic, who was introducing Jackson, made no reference to the singer and controversy.

This correction will self destruct

A news brief Friday on two New Berlin Police Department lieutenants’ receiving the Public Policy Forum’s “Excellence in Individual Teamwork” award gave an incorrect name for a cable TV program the two created. The program is “Mission Possible,” not “Mission Impossible.”

Well, that makes it okay Part 2

This AJC clarification follows on this similar Milwaukee Journal Sentinel correction.

White House adviser Karl Rove said liberals responded to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with "therapy and understanding for our attackers." A photo caption in Monday's Letters to the Editor and a headline in Friday's News section mischaracterized his comments as being aimed specifically at Democrats.

Giving a helping hand the finger

Because of a reporter's error, a story on Page One Tuesday transposed the name of Advance Ambulance dispatcher Ed Gates with that of Charles Slagle, a man charged with stealing a credit card from a dead man. Gates and Advance Ambulance are helping police with the case.

Tarzan opens a zoo

In a June 23 story about a former Tarzan actor buying two new tiger cubs, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Steve Sipek lost his license to own tigers as pets after his 600-pound tiger, Bobo, was fatally shot by a wildlife officer.
Sipek did not lose his pet license; he obtained a new state commercial license to open his home as a zoo and may need an additional federal permit, state wildlife spokesman Willie Puz said.
In addition, the story reported erroneously the amount Sipek paid. He paid $3,200 for both cubs, not for each cub, Puz said.

An editorial on Saturday erroneously stated that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove said Democrats wanted to offer therapy and understanding for the 9-11 terrorists. Rove said liberals wanted to offer therapy and understanding.

In a June 20 "Sports Nut," Robert Weintraub wrote that soccer-mad Argentines modify the model name on Volkswagen Golfs so they read "Gol." The Volkswagen Gol is a different model than the Golf.

All Frenchmen look alike

The photograph that accompanied a story on the playwright Michel Tremblay in Tuesday's National Post was in fact not of Mr. Tremblay, but of Philippe Couillard, the Minister of Health and Social Services of Quebec. The photographer was another Michel Tremblay. The playwright's next novel is titled Le Cahier Bleu. An incorrect spelling of the title appeared in Monday's Post.
